Spider Veins
Spider veins, or telangiectasias,
are red, bluish or purple veins that appear on the face and legs. They
result from sun exposure; use of oral contraception, hormone therapy;
the aging process or heredity and are bothersome to millions of people
worldwide.
Advanced laser procedures have proven extremely
effective in treating them because they deliver a direct prescribed
dose of energy which coagulates the problem veins while sparing the
surrounding skin tissue. After treatment, the vessels slowly and
naturally disappear.
How many treatments are required?
We generally recommend one or two
treatments (with visible results in three to four weeks after). However,
we do have many clients who see dramatic results right away.
How can I be sure that this will work on my veins?
Since other factors influence
treatment response, each of our clients is individually evaluated
during their initial consultation. However, this procedure works very
well for most people whose spider veins are 3 mm or less in size.
When can I resume normal activities?
Although we encourage our clients to
resume normal activities almost immediately after treatment, we do
suggest that they refrain from vigorous exercise and avoid hot tubs for
24 - 48 hours and avoid direct exposure to the sun. However, if you
must be in the sun, you’ll need to protect the treated area with a
minimum SPF 30 sunscreen.
What does it feel like?
There may be no discomfort at all or
minor to moderate discomfort associated with treated larger veins. Most
of our clients describe the sensation as a series of rubber band snaps
on their skin. Additionally, our Cynosure laser is equipped with
a patented cooling system designed to ease any discomfort.
