Laser Hair Removal
A recent scientific advance in medical laser
technology gives us a gentler, safer and faster solution to the
problem of unwanted hair.
Results are normally seen after the first procedure but best
results are usually achieved with five treatments. Laser
therapy is a thoroughly tested, clinically proven method of hair
removal. Treatment is relatively quick and removes unwanted body hair
without damaging the surrounding skin.
Men and women who want to rediscover the ease,
beauty and confidence of hair-free skin, can now have the attractive
appearance they’ve always desired.
How does the laser work?
The laser emits a beam of light that is
attracted to the pigment or melanin in the hair. This energy passes
through the skin without damaging it, and is absorbed by the actively
growing follicles. The follicles are then disabled, resulting in
quick, safe and effective hair removal.
How do I know if I’m a good candidate for laser hair removal?
Although the most dramatic results occur for
clients with light skin and dark hair, new laser technology now makes
it possible for people with darker skin to receive greater benefits.
Since the laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle,
white, blonde, or light red hair will probably not respond to laser
treatments.
Actively tanning skin absorbs laser energy,
so sun exposure should be avoided for 3 days pre- and post-treatment.
If sun exposure is unavoidable, use a minimum SPF 30 sunblock. Other
factors including hormones and medications can affect hair growth and
will be discussed during the initial consultation.
What does it feel like?
Many people say that the treatment
feels like a series of slight pin pricks to the skin. The vast
majority of our clients tolerates this sensation well and do not need
anesthetics. Additionally, our Cynosure laser is equipped with a
patented cooling system designed to ease any discomfort.
How many treatments are required?
You should enjoy a significant reduction of
hair in just one treatment. However, it will take 2 – 4 weeks for the
treated hair to push its way to the surface and fall out. With each
treatment at 4 – 8 week intervals, the hair in the active growing phase
will be disabled.
Since there are between 500 and 1000 follicles
per square inch, each on their own 5 – 13 week growth cycle, an
average of 5 -6 treatments is generally required.. It is important
that the recommended schedule be followed throughout the entire
treatment regime in order to treat the maximum number of follicles in
their active growth phase.
Some clients may desire occasional touch-up
treatments. Individual response depends on hair and skin type, stress
levels, medications, skin sensitivity, and hormone levels.
What is the advantage of using a laser?
Lasers are precise instruments and their
settings are adjusted for each person's particular skin and hair type.
It treats many follicles at once compared to the hair-by-hair treatment
necessary for electrolysis. The results last far longer than
tweezing, waxing, shaving, chemical depilation, or other temporary
methods.
What happens to the skin after laser treatments?
Reddening of the skin and possible small
mosquito bite type bumps are the desired reaction. They usually
subside within a few minutes to a few hours and the skin returns to
normal. The skin will not be broken, so makeup can be applied
immediately and you can resume normal activities, restricting exposure
to extremes of heat for 24 - 48 hours.
