Age Spots
State-of-the-art lasers are used today to treat
brown skin discolorations (i.e. age or sun spots). They emit
wavelengths of light that are better absorbed by colored pigments in
the skin, making it possible to treat a variety of superficial and
deeper pigmented lesions.
How many treatments can I expect?
Although most of our clients see results after
their first treatment it may take as many as five to achieve optimal
results. In rare cases a person may not have enough pigment
present. This could result in an inability to achieve a
noticeable change.
What does it feel like?
We do have clients who say the
sensation is similar to a rubber band snap, although it is usually
minimal and brief.
What can I expect after treatment?
Usually within 20 minutes the treated
areas will be slightly darker and may even be raised. Following
treatment, our clients often say that they have a sunburn sensation for a
few days. In some cases it may look like a superficial burn and in
rare cases clients indicate that a blister has formed or they feel like
mosquito bites.
It normally takes between three days to three weeks for the
discoloration to slough off. It is very important to follow all post
treatment instructions and stay out of the sun for as least a four-week
period to avoid irritating the treated areas. If you cannot avoid sun
exposure then a sunscreen of no less that 30 SPF should be used.
How do I prepare for the treatments?
We recommend staying out of the sun
four weeks before beginning, throughout the treatment series and four
weeks following the last treatment. If you cannot avoid sun exposure
then a sunscreen of no less that 30 SPF should be used.
